Oak Sideboard with Paper Cord Drawers

Woven paper cord introduces a tactile band across the upper drawers of this oak sideboard, giving the cabinet texture without covering the full facade. Below, broad doors maintain a calm, furniture-like surface and provide concealed storage. The pairing of woven fiber and visible wood grain creates an artisanal effect that feels warmer than an all-metal or high-gloss cabinet. Two finish directions are available: Natural Oak & Paper Cord keeps the palette light and tonal, while Black Oak & Paper Cord uses deeper contrast to emphasize the weave. Either version works as a buffet in a dining area, a cabinet in the living room or an organized storage piece for a large entry.

The upper drawers are well suited to flatware, napkins, coasters, documents or small electronics, keeping frequently used pieces separate from the larger cabinet below. Door storage can hold dishes, books, serving bowls or media equipment depending on the room. Across the top, leave some negative space around lamps and decorative objects so the woven drawer band remains visible. The natural finish works easily with pale stone and linen; the black finish can anchor lighter walls and rugs while still retaining the softness of the paper cord.

Paper cord requires a dry routine. A clean upholstery brush can lift surface dust by following the braided direction; wet cleaners, oils and direct heat should stay away from the fiber band. Treat the oak case separately with a dry or only barely moistened cloth, and use a tray whenever plants or drinks are placed above the woven drawers. Drawer movement is most reliable when the cabinet is level and the contents are distributed rather than packed tightly to one side. Natural fiber may show slight tonal irregularity, which reinforces the handcrafted appearance. Keep the central area of the top relatively low so the paper-cord band remains visible from across the room. On the natural version, contrasting dark accessories create definition; on the black version, pale stoneware or linen can reveal the texture without adding shine.
